I am a hardworking, creative and determined person, with an artistic and innovative flare. I view a challenge as a way to conquer and expand my personal goals, while gaining valuable experience to be applied in all corners of my life. Leap from fire leaves two injured
Three people were forced to jump from a second story window after hearing an explosion in their home on Park Road. The Watertown Fire Department received a call at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday morning, July 22 informing them of a house fire on Park Road, Watertown. Three adults were home at the time, and forced to jump from the second floor of the home after hearing an explosion.
Drainage pipe causes Main Street sinkhole
A sinkhole appeared on Main Street over the weekend, exposing a deeper issue underneath the surface. On Friday, June 13, a small sinkhole in the street in front of the Town Times building on 449 Main Street in Watertown appeared. Because Main Street is owned by the state, Department of Transportation workers visited the scene, planning to return on Monday to drill.
Turkish mosque moves into former dance studio
The old church on 94 North Main Street in Thomaston is now home to Nur Cami, a Turkish Mosque. Previously the church had been home to 21st Century Dance Studio. The Mosque officially opened about a week before the Holy month of Ramadan, which began on Saturday, June 28 and will end on Monday, July 28.
Animals For Life seeking donations, adoptive pet parents
Animals for Life, a non-profit, humane animal shelter located in Middlebury, has numerous dogs and kittens up for adoption, and one very special Pit-mix dog who is begging for some extra attention. Animals for Life has been around since 1996 and offers homeless, abandoned or abused animal’s shelter, veterinary examinations and vaccinations until they are adopted into loving families.
Watertown Police perform active shooter training
Watertown Police Officers participated in Active Shooter Training on Wednesday, August 7, a program created to prepare officer’s for the threat of an active shooter. The training took place at Swift Middle school and was instructed by Lt. Spencer Cerruto, the department training officer; Sgt. Curt Molnar, the firearms instructor; and Officer Jesse Esposito, a SWAT team member.
First Congregational Church celebrates 275th anniversary with continuing aid for the hungry
Once a month, the First Congregational Church, 40 DeForest Street, is the site for a mobile food pantry. Members and friends of the community may receive bread, fresh produce, and more with no questions asked. While parish members help distribute the food there, they also provide gift cards for Adams or Stop and Shop to those in need.
Swift students want to make Main Street more attractive
Gorski’s World Geography Class at Swift Middle School is looking to make Watertown a better place. They outlined their plan to town officials and local business owners on Friday, May 16. During the presentation, 28 students used Powerpoint to illustrate their idea of a better Watertown. Before the students began, Mrs.
Pin-Up Hair and Make Up moves into old Heminway Silk Factory
The old Heminway Silk Factory located on 30 Echo Lake Road, Watertown has been renovated into Pinup Hair and Make Up Studio. The family owned business offers a variety of salon features, while giving “quality work and excellent costumer service” in their trendy studio. The Santana family worked together to make the salon of their dreams a reality.
Memorializing home through artwork
Gretchen Getsinger, a former Watertown resident and local artist, spent her morning on Monday, July 22, painting a watercolor sketch of the Dobbins Cottage on 59 North Street; the historic house set to be demolished in August. Getsinger, who now lives in Torrington, spent the majority of her life in Watertown.
Pastor works to bring clean water to Ghana
Carol Rubelmann, a Watertown native and Pastor at The Father’s House, is on a mission to help supply Ghana with clean water by installing wells in the city of Techiman. Rubelmann first went to Ghana about ten years ago on a mission trip with her church, fufilling a life-long goal of hers. “I’ve always felt drawn to Africa, I’ve always felt I needed to go there,” said Ms.
Watertown superintendent to retire:Leaves after two years as superintendent
Superintendent Dr. Gail Gilmore announced her retirement from the district at a special meeting of the Board of Education Thursday, July 11. In support of Dr. Gilmore's decision, the board voted to approve an agreement allowing Dr. Gilmore to step down from the position she has held since December of 2011.

I am a recent graduate from the University of Connecticut where I received a Bachelor Degree for Journalism and Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies. Prior to attending college, I studied at Waterbury Arts Magnet School where I focused on Photography and Graphic Design. Using my art experience, I attended an audition based summer program called Center for the Creative Youth, where I studied Photography under the direction of Christine Breslin, at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. I am a hardworking, creative and determined person, with an artistic and innovative flare. I view a challenge as a way to conquer and expand my personal goals, while gaining valuable experience to be applied in all corners of my life.
